Cleft graft. The scions used (two used here) should each have at least two good, viable dormant buds. A typical scion is from two to five inches long, and is about the thickness of a pencil. Best scion wood comes from straight, unbranced wood that grew last year. Grafting here is shown mainly as a way to create sex changes; to change male trees into female trees. This is very easy to do in particular with fruitless (male) mulberry trees. Scions can be taken from any fruiting (female) mulberry tree. Weeping mulberry wood is also good for scions, as weeping mulberry is always female.
