Red Bougainvillea. This is the cultivar 'San Diego Red' and it's one of my favorites. Bougainvillea flowers are next to pollen-free and allergy of any kind to this species is rare. Hardy only in the mildest climates, Bougainvillea can be grown as houseplants anywhere in a sunny, south-facing window.
Bougainvillea is surprisingly easy to root from small cuttings stuck directly into potting soil. The roots of these plants are exceptionally tender, and when you transplant them, or even just plant one from a pot, great care must be taken not to disturb the roots in any way. Great additions for allergy free gardens in southern areas.
