All the Xylosma I've ever found in California, 100% of it, has been male. We are looking for a female, fruiting plant, and if you know where there is one, Please! do let us know. Xylosma, also sold as Shiny Xylosma, is a very common landscape plant. It doesn't flower often, but when these males do bloom, there is considerable allergenic pollen released. A female Xylosma cultivar would be a very useful plant!
