A female, pollen free holly tree. Almost all hollies, Ilex species, are separate sexed and only the female plants form the handsome red berries. Most modern hybrid hollies sold today, if female, will make plenty of red berries even if there are no male holy plants nearby, through a process known as parthenogenisis. Pollen from male holly trees is allergenic. Female hollies make great additions to any allergy free garden.
